When you and your equipment are under tremendous operational pressure, you can rely on Carpenter's materials.
Professional materials stem from a dedicated focus on materials themselves
Since the dawn of commercial petroleum development—from the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast to the North Sea, the Middle East, and beyond—Carpenter has stood at the forefront of innovation and quality.
We understand the challenges design engineers face in oilfield environments, as well as the high costs of resource extraction and operation. That's why we advise using the best possible materials from the very start. Carpenter's materials help you avoid costly equipment damage and lost production time caused by unexpected failures.
Carpenter's metallurgists, R&D specialists, engineers, and industry experts collaborate closely, combining their expertise to continuously advance and redefine cutting-edge technology. Widely used in extreme environments, Carpenter alloys are renowned for their superior quality, outstanding performance, and exceptional value.
We are committed to finding the most cost-effective solutions for your toughest design and production challenges.
Multiple Alloy and Material Processing Solutions
Nickel-Based Alloys
Nickel-based alloys produced by Carpenter, whether in forged or powder form, serve as critical materials in the oil and gas industry due to their ability to withstand harsh operating conditions, including corrosive environments, high temperatures, and high-stress applications.
These nickel-based alloys are used in a variety of applications, primarily to resist severe corrosion and extreme temperatures. They are available in forms such as large-diameter bars, billets, rods, and wires. For example, Carpenter’s Custom Age 625 PLUS® Alloy (UNS N07716) is used in high-temperature oilfield environments containing concentrated brine, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and sulfur.
High-Strength, Corrosion-Resistant Stainless Steel
Carpenter’s high-strength stainless steels combine exceptional strength with corrosion resistance. These alloys excel in resisting pitting, crevice corrosion, general corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in high-strength aged conditions.
Carpenter offers high-strength stainless steels in forms such as large-diameter bars, billets, rods, and wires, including the nitrogen-strengthened SCF19® Max Austenitic Stainless Steel. This alloy provides resistance to stress corrosion cracking, high strength, and low magnetic permeability, making it suitable for manufacturing non-magnetic drill collars and MWD housings. After hot working, this special alloy achieves a minimum yield strength of 140 ksi.
Titanium Alloys
Dynamet Inc., a subsidiary of Carpenter, produces titanium alloy bars and wires that are lightweight, high-strength, and corrosion-resistant. The unique specific strength, high-temperature performance, and corrosion resistance of titanium make it an ideal choice for withstanding the demanding conditions of oil and gas field operations.
Carpenter provides a complete range of high-strength corrosion-resistant alloys, which are widely used in onshore and offshore oil and gas fields globally. We not only offer industry-leading products but also provide professional material technical support and fast, timely delivery.
Whether for non-magnetic drill collars, MWD/LWD tools, rotary steering systems, ESP shafts, or armored cables, you can rely on Carpenter’s durable, high-quality materials. As technology advances, we continue to innovate our alloy technologies to extend the service life of customer equipment and achieve better performance.
Carpenter produces hundreds of special alloy forms, including billets, solid and hollow bars, multi-size rods, precision strip, plates, wires, fine wires, and steel strips. Most of these alloys can also be processed into powder form.
